Day 62: The roof-raising ceremony

For now, I’m finally working on my writing side job.

I’ll try a variety of things.

Day 62

The framing ceremony. I was originally scheduled to arrive at 3:00 PM, but

I changed it to the morning. I spent the morning taping up the waterproofing sheets on the exterior walls.

Breathable waterproofing sheets are the norm for exterior walls. This is because they combine waterproofing, preventing rainwater from entering from the outside, with breathability, allowing moisture inside the wall to escape.

I put them up.

I cleaned the outside and cleaned the inside, and I kept working on it.

The framing ceremony began.

The framing ceremony is a ceremony held upon the completion of the building’s framework, offering prayers for the safety of the construction and the building’s completion. Traditionally, a banquet is held in addition to the Shinto ritual, but in recent years, it has become increasingly simplified or omitted. The client expresses their gratitude for the work done so far, wishes for future safety, and shows their appreciation for the craftsmen by giving gifts, presents, and serving food.

This was my first topping-out ceremony, and I hadn’t experienced it on any of my previous major construction projects.

I’ve done both a haphazard and a proper pillar-raising ceremony.

Goyo’s was a bit haphazard, and it almost seemed like they just remembered what to do on the day.

Yamato’s was thorough. It was their first major construction project, and they did it properly.

The shrine staff came and chanted various things.

The project finished successfully.

There were some adorable kids there.

I wonder how old the customers were? Maybe they’re younger than me?

They’re building a new house for that amount.

I wonder what kind of job they do.

I wonder if they’re not overdoing it.

In any case, I hope they do their best from now on.

I think it’ll cost a lot of money.

Interest rates are lower than they used to be, so they don’t pay much interest.

If they bought it for ¥40 million, a 35-year loan would be around ¥47-48 million.

Back then, it would have been around ¥60 million, I think.

In any case, I hope they do their best.

The end.

Bye.
