Day 44

Laying crushed stone and compacting it again today

Laying crushed stone is a task performed for a variety of purposes, including strengthening building foundations, controlling weeds, developing parking lots, and preparing roadbeds before asphalt paving. The main purpose is to compact the ground by laying crushed stone and compacting it, improving its strength and stability.

Compaction is the process of applying force to the ground or asphalt using heavy rollers or machinery to reduce the gaps between soil particles, increasing density, and compacting the material. This work stabilizes the ground and prevents subsidence and unevenness in roads, gardens, parking lots, etc.

I just searched for it and found it.

Compacting the road was fun.

Grandpa, at least bring your own light truck.

I almost said that.

They make you sign a contract termination agreement if there’s any dispute.

I couldn’t believe it.

First time.

I guess he listened to what I said when I was a temporary worker.

I wasn’t exactly impatient, but I felt like it was a waste of time.

Now that I think about it, this is the first time I’ve ever heard the term “roadbed.”

Let’s look it up.

The roadbed is the foundation of a road, located on top of asphalt pavement or railway roadbed. It distributes the load of vehicles transmitted from the surface and base layers and transmits it to the roadbed below. Made primarily of compacted materials such as crushed stone, it plays an important role in supporting the overall strength and durability of the road. Improper construction can lead to road collapses and cracks.

It’s a hard surface.

Ensuring stability: Without a solid roadbed, the road will flex with every vehicle passing through, causing cracks and sinkholes.

Preventing traffic accidents: Insufficient roadbed strength can contribute to traffic accidents by preventing it from withstanding traffic loads and leading to road damage.

Extending road life: Proper roadbed construction extends road life and reduces maintenance costs.

That’s important.

Are there any parts of construction that aren’t important?

I was thinking about this separately, but the cut ends of pipe risers don’t need to be chamfered.

The cut ends are rough, so they need to be cleaned up.

When I was a temporary worker, I spent the first seven months managing a mid-sized subcontractor.

That brings back memories.

I started work at 7 a.m. and generally got home by 9 p.m.

Sometimes it would be as late as 2 a.m. or 4 a.m., so I’d go home and sleep a little before going back to work.

I also had to keep a work schedule as a temporary worker. But I was forced to write my end time as 6:00 PM.

If that wasn’t possible, I could have changed my assignment location, but I felt like I’d lost, so I didn’t.

I couldn’t leave until the manager left. I worked 6 days a week, so that was about 25 days a month.

If the manager left between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM, he’d say, “Go home already, you old fool!”

I never said that to him, though.

Yeah, I remember those days fondly.

So, if you think about it, a day is short, and I work 5 hours of overtime, so 25 x 5 = 125 hours of overtime.

Overtime is added on weekends, so it’s more than 125 hours.

Well, having experienced that, it’s easier to go to other sites. There are times when I feel so bored I feel like I’m going to die.

I wouldn’t do it if I wasn’t making money from it.

The pay wasn’t bad, which is why I did it.

Draining the fire water tank every night. How many hours did that take? lol

I was always wondering if it was okay to drain it. It would be terrible if a fire started, and I wouldn’t be able to put out the fire.

There were a lot of sanitary fixtures to sort at night, so I had to use a light.

It was a job that laborers were supposed to do, but I did it.

Marking out the pipes at night, using a stepladder.

I hardly ever did marking out the pipes after I was hired as an architect.

They let me do it all the time when it came to equipment, so I learned the job.

Drilling the cores using the marks I made.

I was often offered work by the laborers, but I never went.

It was renovation work, so I had to check the dimensions on site properly, or they would sometimes differ from the drawings.

They let me do a lot of different things.

I wish I’d stayed in Kanto. I went back to my hometown.

It can’t be helped, though.

Looking back, I wish I’d stayed with that subcontractor. It helped me make money.

There are other industries that are even tougher, but that’s another story.

I’ve realized that I’ve never quit because it was too hard.

I did have a fight and had to change my dispatch company, but that’s happened a few times.

So that’s it.

Bye
