Day 27

Today was safety education and training.

Work-related accidents, SDS, etc.

Sat and listened for 6.5 hours.

I wasn’t sleepy, but my nose was stuffy the whole time.

It’s inevitable because I have a broken nose.

There were about 40 people there.

A lot of people there.

I sat right in front of the first lecturer.

An older guy who used to work for a general contractor.

Work-related accidents and other accidents are on the decline.

Apparently, in the past, you didn’t even need to wear a safety belt or protective gear.

I think safety awareness has increased and accidents have decreased.

I once worked as a temporary worker at a construction company headquartered in Aichi Prefecture.

He was at the company’s No. 2 construction site.

He was trying to operate a backhoe right next to me.

The company’s supervisor told him to die.

That brings back memories. It was a crappy job site.

They needed a pump truck, but they only had a single steel plate, and it got punctured on the corner.

The supervisor said no one else was there except me.

It was so lame.

They were pouring the foundation using a ready-mix concrete truck.

That was innovative, I’d never seen anything like it.

I think this was three years ago.

I’m getting off topic.

That’s right.

And then, it seems like industrial accidents and injuries started to decrease.

They were talking about that, interspersed with stories and data.

Regarding SDS, it seems like only scaffolding companies use organic solvents.

Organic solvents are a general term for organic compounds that have the ability to dissolve other substances (oil, resin, paint, etc.). They are widely used in painting, cleaning, printing, and other processes. They are highly volatile and easily absorbed by workers through their breathing and skin. Improper handling can cause acute symptoms like headaches and dizziness, or chronic health problems like skin damage and internal organ damage.

It’s harmful to the body.

I often post documents on construction sites when painting.

There are lots of little notices like that.

I wonder if anyone is doing it 100%?

I mostly worked for general contractors, so

They’re very safety-conscious.

Construction companies don’t wear safety harnesses lol.

I guess it’s lax.

If an accident happens, they’ll probably just cover it up lol.

General contractors are generally very safety-conscious.

Penta-Ocean Construction was going to take photos of the steel beams 30 meters above,

They didn’t even prepare full-body harnesses.

That wouldn’t happen at Kajima.

Even mid-tier companies do that.

Even general contractors depend on the company and the manager, I guess.

I wonder if it’s true that you can walk on steel beams with just a waist belt.

It’s a mystery.

Apparently, when they were building Tokyo Tower, they didn’t wear safety harnesses on the steel beams.

They’re crazy.

How high is it? lol.

I wonder if there were any fatalities?

Is wearing a safety harness considered uncool?

I’m glad safety awareness has increased.

It would be interesting to use examples like this in training sessions.

The end.

Bye.
